About Us

Acti:Fit Personal Training was founded by Simon Clarke in 2006.

"With a lifelong passion for sports such as Football, Running, Cycling, Athletics, Fell/ long distance Walking, sport and fitness has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. I played competitive Football (11 a side and 6 a side) for over 20 years and after becoming an FA Qualified coach I took on a junior team at Thirsk Falcons FC in 2019 who I currently still coach.  As well as this I have competed in various road Cycling events and am also a keen runner. I have a passion for walking and have spent a lot of time in the Lakes, Moors and Dales walking many of fells (always the Wainwright way might I add!) and have completed various walking challenges over the years. I probably don't sound too much like your stereotypical Personal Trainer so far.... 

Prior to working in the fitness industry I decided to study Sports Science in York from 1998 to 2000 to the equivalent of x2 A Levels. This gave me a wider depth of knowledge studying the bio mechanics of many different sports as well as studying the all important psychological side before moving into the fitness industry.

Over a 6 year period working within Fitness Clubs I furthered my education through the industry standard Central YMCA Qualifications whilst picking up vital experience and knowledge on the way by working in 3 very different Fitness environments. My first club was a busy city centre gym which was very much focussed on strength & conditioning amongst the clientèle. This meant early on I got the chance to use my knowledge in the gym working one to one with clients on various (usually resistance) routines bringing more variety of training to there sessions. I soon found that I thrived working with people one to one and the results from the attention to detail were there for everyone to see. This is when I started to veer more into Personal Training. In my next career step I moved to a larger country club which included new studio facilities and open spaces surrounding the club. This introduced me to instructing a large range of classes with the clientèle more health and wellbeing focussed. I moved further into Personal Training here by making the most of the surrounding grounds and studio facilities. By this point I wanted to move into Personal Training on a more frequent basis and took up an opportunity to work at a specialist Personal Training and Sports Injury clinic. Here I gained vital experience of home based Personal Training as well as working alongside the Sports Injury Therapists back at the clinic.

In 2006 I brought all of my experiences and knowledge together and launched Acti:Fit Personal Training bringing a truly unique and flexible approach to Health, Fitness & Wellbeing to homes across the North of York catchment area. I feel that with my time dedicated to my clients coupled with my past ground work, qualifications and experience this benefits my clients enormously. I strive to get the best out of everyone and thoroughly enjoy the different challenges each individual brings".

Acti:Fit are passionate about getting more and more people into fitness whilst offering unrivalled quality in service. We fully understand that every individual wants to achieve different types of goals and that there are many different ways of achieving that goal via different techniques that suit different personalities. We will work tirelessly to unlock the enjoyment factor and buzz that should be present whilst training. We strongly believe this will keep people focused and on the right track as fitness should never be seen as a chore. We aim to educate people along the way so that we can pass our knowledge on in order for people to understand more about how the body works in relation to what it is there trying to achieve. At the end of it all we want everyone to achieve there desired results whilst enjoying there training and embracing a new lifestyle along the way!
