About Us

Acti:Fit Personal Training was founded by Simon Clarke in 2006.

"With a passion for Cycling, Football, Running, Athletics, Fell/ long distance Walking and generally keeping fit & healthy, sport and fitness has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have played competitive Football (11 a side and 6 a side) for over 20 years and am a very keen cyclist. Thus spending much of my spare time training in the local Howardian Hills as well as the Yorkshire Moors and Dales taking part in various Sportives each year on the road bike. As well as cycling I have also spent a lot of time in the Lakes, Moors and Dales walking many of fells (always the Wainwright way might I add!) and have completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks various times as well as walking the coast to coast. I probably don't sound too much like your stereotypical Personal Trainer. I have however worked in different types of gyms for many years and now really enjoy the diversity of training people in different environments with a broader spectrum of goals and fitness requirements.

I was 16 when I decided I wanted to pursue a career in the Sport/ Fitness Industry so upon finishing school I decided to study Sports Science from 1998 to 2000 to the equivalent of x2 A Level Standard. This gave me a good rounded platform of knowledge studying the bio mechanics of many different sports as well as beginning to learn the important psychological side to achieving goals before moving into the fitness industry and furthering my education.

Over a 6 year period working within Fitness Clubs I furthered my education through the industry standard Central YMCA Qualifications whilst picking up vital experience and knowledge on the way by working in 3 very different Fitness environments. My first club was a busy city centre gym with a large male weight lifting mentality amongst the clientèle. This meant early on I got the chance to use my knowledge in the gym working one to one with clients on various (usually resistance) routines bringing more variety of training to there sessions. I soon found that I thrived working with people one to one and the results from the attention to detail were there for everyone to see. This is when I started to veer more into Personal Training. In my next career step I moved to a larger country club which included new studio facilities and large outdoor space. This introduced me to teaching a range of classes with the clientèle now also more female based. I moved further into Personal Training here by making the most of the surrounding grounds and studio facilities. By this point I wanted to move into Personal Training on a more frequent basis and took up an opportunity to work at a specialist Personal Training and Sports Injury clinic. Here I gained vital experience of home based Personal Training as well as working alongside the Sports Injury Therapists back at the clinic.

After setting up Acti:Fit Personal Training in 2006 I am now a full time Personal Trainer. I feel that with my time dedicated to my clients coupled with my past ground work, qualifications and experience this benefits my clients enormously, as I strive to get the best out of everyone and thoroughly enjoy the different challenges each individual brings to the plate."
